Joe Cole is an official Liverpuldian

July 19, 2010

Let's play swap the t-shirt!

In a strange twist of fate, Joe Cole has signed for Liverpool, as he replaces the void left by Youssi Benayoun, who left the Anfield club, to replace Cole at Chelsea.

Financially, Liverpool have got the better end of the bargain, with Cole signed on a free transfer, and 5million quid in the pocket for Benayoun’s transfer, but will need most of that to pay Cole’s rumoured 90k pounds a week.

Indirectly, Liverpool will get the bigger name, the English player, and also a better supporting act for Torres and Gerrard. Both Torres and most certainly Gerrard, will be more inclined to stay. Fabio Capello might also be smiling, as he will get to see Cole and Gerrard play together more regularly, injury permitting, and Lampard may see his best years in an England shirt (too few in any case!) come crashing to a halt.

How else Joe Cole’s move will change the perception of Liverpool as a dying force remains to be seen, but after moving from a team of champions, to a team not even in the Champions League, Cole certainly shows he is not afraid of the challenge.

Hicks and Gillett may also be smiling, and may have increased the value of the club, and bought themselves a bit more time to find a buyer for the club, while at the same time appeasing fans, who ultimately still want the Americans out.

Welcome to Liverpool Joe, I am made up you have signed for us. Obviously we are not in the Champions league and had a disastorous campaign last season but you are the calibre of player we need to get us back up and challenging again. Fantastic signing Mr. Roy Hodgson.

This will provide more flair along with Aquaman and Jova! Now there should be some balls fed to Stevie and FT to score some goals!

It’s a fantastic move for us. He’s everything we needed. It’ll be interesting to see where Roy employs him. Whether he’ll play a left-sided role, which is unlikely given the arrival of Milan Jovanovic, or in behind Torres, which is where we all want to see him play. Can you imagine a Cole – Torres partnership when they’re both fully fit and firing? Watch out top 4 again, I say!
