Newcastle United facing administration

September 24, 2009

SOCCER Newcastle 1

If Kevin Keegan wins his compensation pay-out, Mike Ashley could be forced to put the club into administration.

Newcastle club officials fear that the massive pay-out could be in the region of £9 million. Keegan’s claim for constructive dismissal is being heard by a Premier League independent arbitration panel and is expected to reach a conclusion this Friday.

Administration is possibly the harshest penalty that the club could suffer, but speculation is rife that the club is now cash-strapped and heavily overdrawn. The wage bill of £74 million was halved over the Summer with only two loan signings coming into the club.

If Ashley chooses administration they would lose 10 championship points which,  as the table stands would see them drop to the second half of the table and would put a dent in their promotion hopes.
