Tottenham Fans Threaten Boycott If Redknapp Moves For Sol Campbell

September 23, 2009

Countless Tottenham Hotspur fans have furiously bombarded radio stations this morning, as the rumours start to fly that their biggest figure of hate is about to rejoin the North London side.

Many have stated that they are already organising a boycott of the club if manager Harry Redknapp moves to take Sol Campbell to White Hart Lane, after the England veteran defender walked out on his £10 million contract with Notts County. Many rang in to the Alan Brazil breakfast show on Talksport this morning, and subsequent shows, to voice there disgust at the thought of Campbell representing the club again. Many spoke of “burning their season tickets” if a deal were to go through, and insisted they would demand Redknapp’s resignation for being so out of touch with the fan base

judasRedknapp is a massive fan of Campbell, having nabbed him from Arsenal to Portsmouth. He recently was quoted:

“‘I think he’s [Sol] still a fantastic player. Anybody looking for a centre-half, I’d have took him without any problem at all because he’s still that good. He’s still, in my opinion, a top-six central defender in the Premier League, so for Notts County to get him in that division is just incredible. I’ll be truthful, I spoke to Martin O’Neill about four weeks ago and he was talking about looking for a central defender and I said, ‘I’d take Sol Campbell’. That’s how highly I rate him still. I left him behind at Portsmouth and he was still outstanding”

Spurs are currently in the middle of a defensive crisis, with Jon Woodgate showing little signs of return from injury, and fresh doubts about Sebastien Bassong, who was concussed and suffered a leg injury this last weekend. In theory, Campbell would be the ideal signing. Experienced at the highest level and a free agent (if County release him as expected) However, the fallout could be too much, with Tottenham fans reacting so badly at the mere mention of the man’s name, let alone him playing football for them.

This could well be the most controversial deal of the season if Redknapp pulls out the Cockney charm, and bags himself a top class free agent as he used to do for fun at Pompey…for some reason, I think he may get his paws burned with this one if he does.

Harry should forget about him. If Spurs sign him up they all gonna have to run like hell out of the place.

If Redknapp got him, he’d surely be for backup purposes only. Still, probably a waste of wages imo.

Just reported on Sky that Campbell will not be allowed to join another club until January by the Football League

I am just damn-well pleased he can’t join any other team until January! Otherwise, I’m very sure Arry would’ve pissed me and a lot of other Spurs supporters off.

Go back to Notts County Judas!
