emmanuel adebayor stamps on robin van persie video

September 13, 2009

Robin van Persie claims that former team-mate and Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor deliberately stamp on him during Arsenal’s 4-2 defeat at Eastlands.

I am sad and disappointed by my former team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor’s mindless and malicious stamp on me during today’s match.

If found guilty by the FA, Adebayor could miss three matches – including the Manchester derby next week.

Adebayor admits that he caught van Persie in the face with his right boot but claims that it was unintentional.

I was trying to kick the ball,” Adebayor told Sky Sports. “I see him tackling and I don’t have time to take my feet back because I’m trying to kick the ball. My feet touch his head. I feel sorry for him and even straight away, and at the end of the game, I said sorry.

From the video below, I think van Persie might have a case here especially from the first angle of the replay. There’s that sudden lunge of his right feet as it nears the Dutchman’s face. Anyone else agree?

Adebayor could also be remanded for his ill-judged celebration towards the traveling fans when he ran the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Arsenal fans, inciting a melee of flying objects – including a plastic stool and a cigarette lighter.

It later emerged that a match steward needed hospital treatment after being hit by a flying object in the wake of Adebayor’s goal celebration.

Theres defo a possibility that Ade did kick him deliberately, but its up for debate. I do think that Van Persie releasing a statement like that so quick after the game is wrong. Arsenal and their players(and manager) need to take a step back..they open there gobs so quick if they feel they have been wronged when they lose…i guarantee you thered have been no statement had Arsenal actually won the game. I know all clubs moan when they lose (us included) but Arsenal just seem so dramatic about everything.

I think City will push hard for Arsenals top 4 place this year now.

rob mate, his former team mate intentionally kicked him in the face, i think he has a right to complain…be reasonable. Besides what has any of this got to do with a plastic united fan

Paul dude, no offence here, but this blog is for ppl who like football, and I am a United fan, but still I enjoy watching football around the world, be it English Premier League, Spanish Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1 etc. I enjoy watching Premier League clubs, and watched the whole City-Arsenal game even if am not a fan of either, so telling Rob he had nothing to say here is may be a little out of place.
Fair for Van Persie to complain he was intentionally kicked by Adebayor and should have been booked for it as well in my opinion since I think Adebayor is out for a personal revenge with Arsenal (team + fans)

Paul…erm, as i write for this site i can say what i like thank you. You Arsenal fans really do have the biggest chips on your hunchback shoulders

Anyway, its true, it has nothing to do with United thank God. If i were an Arsenal fan maybe i would feel shit at the moment as well.

And what does plastic United fan actually mean?

I’d say he would of had an excuse if their wasn’t that stomping action and he just put his foot down
Watching it live yesterday I dropped my jaw when I didn’t see a card come out for that. I mean the ref was on top of that.

  3. September 13, 2009 2:51 pm

I actually thought he should have been at least yellow carded for that! And then get sent off for his celebration for running the entire length of the pitch!

But that would screw up my fantasy league team. So I’m hoping he doesn’t get banned for my greedy purposes heh heh

Its funny how we laugh at each other in football, at each others expenses..

I must admit i though him running the length of the pitch was class…he must have had the biggest rush of adrenalin when he scored. The amount of curse words going through his mind as he approached the Gooners fans must have been off the scale

I did laugh, but admit that he did a wrong wrong…but we will all remember that knee slide for a long time. He must HATE Arsenal

Adebayor. Twat. anyone watching the replay can see that there was a secondary motion when he realised what position he was in. a lightbulb (new energy saving one mind you) of opportunity lit up and he went for him. you look at it any amount of times, it only gets more certain that he meant it.

and as for the 100 yard dash…..ball to him saying that it was an emotional thing. pre meditated and was always gonna happen if he had scored.

I’m a United and Celtic fan, hating arsenal and their cheating diving lucky goal scoring ways, but everytihng adebayor did yesterday is whats wrong with football, when the footballers become thugs. he kicked van persie, and he encited that most fervant of supporter…..the away fan. yea, they probably threw every insult in the book at him, but if someone’s paying me that money, il sit there and take every insult you can think of for the whole 90 mins. id be too busy thinking what car id buy this week to even hear what the opposition fans were saying. ok, i jest a little (think it would be new aston martin btw, the one feature in last episode of top gear recently…nice). but its a question of him being mature enough not to get up to that sort of malarky.

and i think we are all conveniently forgetting……Arsenal fans were RIGHT (thats not a phrase you’ll hear everyday. or even every year) to hate on adebayor last year. he was angling for moves all over the show. as he was before he went to citeh….checking to see if united or chelsea wanted him. all in the aid of getting improved contract.

his performances last year were shocking. full of apparent self importance and selfishness.

Arsenal fans were right to be annoyed and frustrated. and citeh fans have that all to come.
Wenger made adebayor what he is. showed a distinct lack of class in his behavior yesterday and since he has left arsenal in general.

i think van persie was probably really upset that an ex team mate, a previous friend, had done what he so visibly did. and i think he probably wanted to put his feelings out there before he had a chance to calm down, or for someone to talk him out of it. fair play to him for speaking out and for mentioning that Adebayor, despite his assurances, HAD NOT apologised to him after. im pretty sure that if he had, van persie would have left it there, but adebayor didnt have the fortitude or maturity to do it, and now, hopefully, he will come to regret it.

and as for what it has to do with us ‘plastic’ (what???) united fans….this is a football commentary site. where football fans discuss what has happened in the world of football. as united fans, are we only allowed to talk about united?

      One thing Matthew

Mr Adebayor has commented that he apologised immediately after the incident and then at the final whistle?

      Someones telling porkie here

I know, and who have you got your money on? for me, there is no way van persie comes out and says all that while telling porkies too.

my money’s on adebayor lying through his teeth to try and play things down, not knowing that van persie was gonna go all bogger on his ass.

and calling him Mr Adebayor? i think thats affording him a measure of respect he has shown he really does not deserve! lol

      • September 13, 2009 7:03 pm

well the truth is i trust neither of them. Van persie has got previous. The statement was all formal and stuff..”im so disappointed my former team mate tried to rip my face off yadda yadda”

Adebayor will get a ban no doubt, im thinking three matches. FA charge to follow this coming week.

Adebayor has got previous with his lying. He gave 2 interviews within 10 minutes of each other last summer. One “I love Arsenal, muah muah”, the other “Milan Milan Barca Barca”. And he wonders why we hate him. He also stamped on Cesc’s ankle in the first half aswell. The guy is unbelievable. Hopefully he’ll get the ban.

Ade’s probably lying about apologising when he realised the extent of his actions. The possibility of being banned a min of 3 matches for 1 charge lol will not go well on his loving citeh fans when they lose to manu next week =)

can i just apologise to Tom Huddlestone for Scholeys awful tackle that made him grab his face as he went to ground and got him sent off.

    Sorry Tom

    • September 13, 2009 9:32 pm

worse than the adebayor stamp methinks, would class it as a career ending tackle that. thank god, he made a remarkable recover. no magic sponge needed.

has nobody even considered the fact that there may have been a clash between VP and ade before he left arsenal?

if you were going to get someone back for something, wouldn’t that be a sweet moment, no?

of course, it could just be ade being the standard prick that he is.. whatever it is, it’s a let down for football and I really hope he gets suspended.

Absolutely disgusting, he’s a complete disgrace!

Who the fuck cares if he wanted to celebrate in front of Arsenal fans, who wouldn’t want to piss them off.
Yeah the face stomp was too far, but come on, i see nothing wrong with him doing the knee slide.
Proabably the best way ever to say FUCK YOU to arsenal fans without actually saying it, and i reckon its all class hahaha, and i am no adebayor fan, cause i hated him at arsenal (not arsenal fan either, newcastle lol) as he was lazy and shit, but at Man City hes been revived!

I’ve watched it about two dozen times and was convinced it was intentional until I saw the motion of his left leg. His body is shifted over his left leg and he would fall if he didn’t get a better footing. He lifts his left leg off the ground while his right leg is in the air still and what happens? He begins to fall and drops his right leg first to catch his balance. You can see the motion begins from his hips. and its only a downward motion. And he just barely catches VP’s face. If he was trying to stomp VP he could’ve just fallen onto him or maybe let a knee drop onto his head or even poked his toe out to hit him.

Also the immediate hand to mouth “Oh Shit” motion to me says he was remorseful for what had just happened. I wish I had seen the game to see what his reaction afterwards.

    • September 14, 2009 8:51 am

yeah i get what scott is saying…thats why i was questioning it because the intent has a big question mark hanging over it…different camera angles all seem to tell different stories

No one has mentioned Van Persies goall celebration yet, where he could have gone to the arsenal fans near him but he wheeled away to the City fans next to him screaming “Fcuk You” repeatedly at them…the replay is quite clear on this…as bad a Adebayor in many ways

  11. September 14, 2009 11:51 am

The stamp kinda of stopped Arsenal playing their game and focused their attention on hurting Adebayor and helped City win their match.

Part of me is thinking tactic, but I really hope it wasn’t.

That sharp downward movement of Adebayor’s right foot is clearly a strike at VP’s face. There is just no way it can be interpreted as the action of someone simply trying to right his balance. Watch him play and you realize that this guy is quite nimble on his feet despite his size. What a disgusting thing to do. I really liked him and thought he would do well in City, playing with Robinho and Tevez but now he can bloody well go to hell.

looks like van persie initiated it coming in hard from behind. the retaliation was hardly a “stomp”. not like Rooney’s stomp on Ronaldo’s testes @ WC2006

coming in hard from behind? methinks you need to work on your phrasing! haha

are you kidding me though? not as bad as rooney in world cup? he CLEARLY went out of his way to kick Robin Van Smugness in the face. A fraction further up and the man could have been blinded. The stamp was malicious and quite visibly intentional. If you can’t see that, you are delusional. Its as clear as day.

Van Persie was right……Adebayor had his own agenda on saturday.

Two separate FA charges (stamping and goading), plus Greater Manchester Police intervention.
