FIFA 2010 vs PES 2010: Battle of Football

September 10, 2009

Once again the battle between EA and Konami will be fierce, as football gamers on PC (as well as PS, Wii and XBox) will get to play and decide which among the 2, FIFA Soccer 2010 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2010, will be better.

FIFA has improved since FIFA 2009, with new AIs, better visuals and gameplay, while PES 2010 will almost be an exact copy of the former, with the differences may be felt after trying both games, unfortunately something which I yet got the opportunity to do. So if anyone has played a demo of either, feel free to share your opinions.

From past experience Pro Evo is the best football game on xbox/playstation. FIFA is too unrealistic in it’s gameplay. Graphics are great but gameplay is poor.

Pro Evo gameplay is brilliant. The only disappointing thing about it is that FIFA never let them have the kit/team/player rights for a lot of it! If that changes, Pro Evo will be unbeatable. ‘mon the PES!

See your comment would be true if you were talking about, say, pro4/5/6 on the PS2.

As far as the next-gen versions go..i hated pro 2008 and pro 2009, they never game me even 5% of the pleasure i had playing the ps2 versions (and in pro6 i rank nationally in israel).

Since Fifa 2009 i have to say, fifa took the realism to a new level where PES just felt copied and unrealistic in comparison.

It’s even PES that slowed down the speed for 2010 to make it more ‘realistic’ and actually admitted to be aiming more for arcade since PRO4.

The major fault of PRO 08/09 in my opninion is the AI, where my team leaves unimaginable gaps in defensive play when left on their own, but taking my controlled player to close that gap 4 out of 5 results in a foul by the CPU on the dribbling player.

So my choices are: leave the gap or get a yellow/red/freekick/penalty. Very frustrating if you are aiming for a specific tatical system.

As far as gameplay realism goes. Fifa had some quirks that seemed to be ironed out in the fifa10 demo. And in Pro i could still make idiotic 90degree turns while in full sprint. Up until now i definitly favored the FIFA offside engine, but very much disliked their ‘advantage’ system.

In the end i would say, fifa is a bit more realistic (yes i said it) compared to real world football and thus a tad less spectacular. Pro is a bit more arcade that’s why it gives you that extra of (supernatural) control of a player.

When Konami brings a good product, they definitly do it good, way better than FIFA was able to do (PES4 still the NO1 footie imo, way ahead of its time). But in absence of a good perfomance it’s only natural that the runner-up becomes the new number 1.

Here’s a review comparing both from someone who’s actually played both games.

    Looks like FIFA rules again.

pro evo on the ps3 and fifa on the xbox. although, fifa has the upper hand. great graphics, everything is licensed and the gameplay has improved significantly, but i still have a soft spot for pro evo so i still play it on the ps3.

Honestly I used to be a Pro Evo fan a couple years back but lately they have gone totally slack and hardly improved the gameplay at all. I mean the last 2-3 it’s like they just re-named the game and made the transfers. On the other hand FIFA has always looked to improve the game and I find it much more realistic than the arcade style super speed Pro Evo. Not to mention the FIFA online play and live season form are superb. So basically I’ve been converted to a FIFA fan!

Fifa all the way, Pro Evo has been the same game for the past two going on three years…and yeah while it’s eye candy, there isn’t much substance. Fifa is by far more realistic in more ways than one. It’s Fifa on the 360 for me all the way.

The FIFA game is much better played than the PES 10

PES is a far better game, hands down. I personally have always been disappointed that there’s no licensing in the Premier League except for two teams each season but that doesn’t make it a worse game. Yes FIFA 10 is better online, but only better, it’s not even good online, but each to their own.

PES has always exceeded FIFA in realism and playabilty and flows so much better and after the past few years I have struggled to find a reason for me to buy FIFA games anymore because PES is so much more rewarding, overall a better game.
