“The new Ryan Giggs…..”

September 2, 2009

After the much maligned tag of “The New George Best” which has dogged many a young player at Old Trafford for light year after light year, the new tag we will have to get used to is “Player X is the new Ryan Giggs”

It is inevitable. And I have our very first candidate ..

This Christmas, Mr Santa will deliver a young Serbian to our Carrington training complex, holding the hand of his brother elf Zoran Tosic and his big Papa Vidic. That young man is named Adem Ljajic.

Hailed in Serbia as the best thing since sliced Croatian, “Little Kaka” as he is dubbed is similar in style to..erm…Kaka. A midfielder who likes to attack, both wide and centrally, Ljajic has tremendous balance and pace. At only 17, he is considered one of the hottest prospects at Under 18 level. And at six foot tall, has the potential to develop into a bit of a beast. Now i got a little excited previously when i saw Manucho at the African Nations Cup and thought he was going to be a diamond for naturally i want to be cautious here. United have many great youngsters coming through at the moment and Adem will join this band of merry young men soon. I hope i do not jinx him by giving him article space this early on before he has even kicked a ball in English football but he looks genuinely exciting.

So good luck young buck! Welcome to England.

The lad already has on Manchester worthy jeans. I can only assume the back pockets are spectacular as well.
And yes, I will start feeding Giggsy a bit more. He’s looking very thin.

6 foot? Giggs is 5’11. Hmmm.
    Is he a lefty?

KP i believe he is two footed so double bubble. Those jeans look well sure his back pocket has a diamond encrusted dragon on it or summit like.

Jean-spotting is one of my favorite things to do in Manchester. You can tell the alpha dog by the intricacies of his back pocket. Only social peons would wear the standard issue.
The Manc lad back pocket has become cod piece of the 21st century.

yes cod piece is an excellent way to describe it. Im thinking of having my back pocket stitched with 84 carat gold thread in the style of Roy Keanes head..i may actually have his real hair woven in as well….top one nice one

Giggs was never a Best and I suspect that Ljajic will never be a Giggs. Let them be themselves in their own era and enjoy their individual talents and achievements.

FWIW: Best was simply a genius (Pele and Best – everyone else before and since are mere shadows).

yeah maserati agreed..its more a slant at the tabloids who will make the comparisons..

Another hot prospect, but yet again will he adapt to english football is another question many will be asking, and also if he will get chances to play more in the first team.

People say he is more developed at 17 than Ronaldo was so thats a massive plus..if its true Fergie will give him a chance, but maybe not til next season

Ljajic is easily one of the best youngsters in the world. I can tell you first hand that I’ve seen him play plenty of times for Partizan and he is amazing. And yes his nickname is appropriate as the way he glides around the pitch sure reminds me of a young Kaka.
