Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has emerged as an unlikely ally to UEFA president Michel Platini’s plan to crack down on football clubs playing in Europe who spend beyond their means despite their own previous financial outrageousness.

Ahead of yesterday’s Champions League draw in Monaco, Michel Platini named Abramovich and AC Milan’s president Silvio Berlusconi as supporters who want rules to be implemented to control the rising inflation on transfer fees, wages and debt within football.

I call hypocrite.

Abramovich is just trying to sabotage Manchester City who are following his example. Man City’s total transfer fees is well above £200m this year, the kind of money used to describe Chelsea’s plan for illustriousness back when the Abramovich era just started.

O! beware, my lord, of jealousy;
It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock.
The meat it feeds on.

    Yes. Jealousy, that’s the word. He’s scared of Man City, because they might do what he couldn’t, meaning building a great team instead of a bunch of rich guys playing -playing what?- football.

    He’s got a lot of money, but he still has to learn how to use it and let the football experts think about Chelsea signings.

    Silvio Berlusconi is an amusing ally of Platini aswell. What moron would want support from corrupt billionaires who know little about football?

    Football’s already lost it’s roots and unfortunatly the horse has already bolted. Man City have built their squad and as long as a buyer fits the laughable ‘Fit & Proper Person’ test, there is nothing to stop either billionaires buying a premiership play-toy or businessmen saddling a club with debt while looking to make a personal forture.
