Bad News for United and England: Rio Ferdinand Extended Recovery

August 21, 2009

Das ist nicht gut.

Rio Ferdinand’s injury to the thigh muscle will see him out of play for a month.

He will miss England’s World Cup Qualifying match with Croatia- scheduled for Sept 9th, and Manchester United’s ties with Wigan, Arsenal, and Tottenham.  Very bad timing as Arsenal and Tottenham’s offense looks amazing as of late and United’s defense looks- well, haggard.

The 30 year old defender has already missed United’s close win over Birmingham and unpredicted loss to Burnley.

Manchester United’s defensive lineup faces some complication as now Jonny Evans is out with an ankle injury which will likely need surgery, but Nemanja Vidic-Preece has been training with the squad and per Sir Alex Ferguson, will be fit for Wigan.

Rio’s absence is a noticeable one.  And I’m not feeling very positive.

A good news for the Gunners, but Man United are still tough even without Rio.

Couple it with the news that Evan’s ankle is acting up again, and our once rock solid back line is looking a bit fragile.

I know Fergie is adamant about not going into the transfer market, but might he have to do it out of necessity? Is Wes Brown really a qulaity option at CB anymore? He spent most of the 2007-2008 season at RB.

Haha Colin did you read my full article? Evans mentioned :-P
Fully agree on need to purchase. Wesley Sneijder latest rumor. But defense needs fortification for sure.

Will use formation with Vidlicious center. No, Wes Brown and John O’Shea can’t handle it.

Ja, nicht gut. United are slowly but surely losing everyone long term to injury. Lets see what Fergie does….

lets just hope the strikers are up for this one.

Argh. Agreed. Let’s hope Man Utd’s offense overpowers that of Arsenal and Tottenham. Whoever said the best defense is the attack, didn’t see Ferdinand play.

Good news. Jonny Evans deemed fit for Wigan. The need for surgery is eventual.

This will be a boost for when the Gunners play them but I still hope Vidic can recover for the match even though I’m an Arsenal fan seeing Serbia have a crunch qualifier coming up against France :P
But if they play anything like they did in the first two games I can see Arsenal coming away with a win at Old Trafford.
