Hertha want Voronin back

August 18, 2009
Please go

Please go

Desperate? Piss-take? One of the two.

German Club Hertha Berlin have the unexplainable desire to take Liverpool Striker Andriy Voronin back to Germany. The Ukraine International spent last season on loan in Bundesliga, and scored 11 goals in 20 appearances for the Club.

Voronin is out of favour at Anfield, for good reason, and it looks like Rafael Benitez wants to shift him out. The problem is, no one had wanted him up until now. Having started his Liverpool career fairly well, with a goal on debut at St. Etienne, Voronin completely lost his form through the middle of the 2007-2008 season, and was cast aside promptly. At the start of the 2008-2009 season, Hertha came calling and snapped him up on a loan deal. Now back at Anfield, Voronin made little impact when coming on as a substitute in the defeat to Tottenham.

For me, having watched him play on numerous occasions, he’s definitely having the same for breakfast as what Lucas has. Liverpool have had their fare share of failing centre-forwards in recent times – Fernando Morientes is one that springs to mind – but Voronin has hit a new level of rubbish-ness. You may think I’m over-critical of Lucas and Voronin, but anyone in their right mind can see that they’re not worthy of the Red’s shirt.

So if Voronin goes, that’s half of the catastrophes out the door. I’ll be on the phone to Mr. Gegenbauer asap, asking if he’ll take Lucas away as well.

Well having seen him at Hertha last year I must grudgingly defend the man. I give credit where its due and I think he deserve a tad bit since he really did well for the Berlin club. Can you really fault him for not being able to bring his form to Anfield though when the fat spanish waiter seem to have a personal vendetta against Voronin? Anyways, he should make the move, he’ll fit in better in a lower profile club.

dont mind, but who in your opinion deserves 2 wear d red shirt… i get it that lucas doesnt give u wat alonso gives u, neither does he give u wat maschy does, but he isnt expected 2… jus think bout it n theres quite some sense in playing lucas… he n maschy give ample cover 2 d back 4… its jus that who he passes 2 cant do shit with d ball meanin babel n gerrard in his current position.. im no gerrard basher, but imo all they needed in d last match was more of yossi n less of babel… its actually similar 2 d Italian system, i lyk comparing it 2 milan n inter… its jus that gerrard n torres need a seedorf… n yossi is kind of a poor mans seedorf..

Liverpool need a play maker desparately – in the quarterback role. They should break the bank for someone who can supply the bullets for Torres and Gerrard.

Maserati-the “quarterback” role -have you been reading Jamie Redknapp?

Gerrard originally started as a right back and also was magnificent there in Istanbul. He can play anywhere.

A play-maker in central midfield is essential (preferably two-footed) – what ever system you wish to adopt and whatever name you wish to give it.

Release Gerrard to support Torres and Liverpool will prosper.

It’s not rocket science. Replay the Spurs v. Liverpool game from last Sunday and learn from it. Even a fantasy football manager could work it out.

Voronins record at Hertha was good and let face it the Bundasliga isnt The Premier League. Liverpools problem is they simply do not have any quality strikers bar Torres. If Gerrard’s goals dry up they are in the big shit! Oh they have El Zhar…pah!…and Ngog..double pah!

Is that supposed to be funny? And how can you say Lucas isn’t expected to do well? :-S. He’s playing for Liverpool – a club trying to win the League. Of course he’s expected to do well.

As for your comment about Gerrard not being able to do ‘shit’ with the ball in his current position – Gerrard would still be our best player if he played left-back every game. He’s one of the best players in the world, for numerous reasons. It’s not like he’s a one-trick poney.

Voronin was good up to a point at Hertha-but when it came to the Bundesliga run in-he fell off the radar screen, the goals dried up and he actually lost his place. I would be surprised if Hertha want him back-if they do-it will not be as a regular starter.
