Sir Alex’s new season resolution

Rooney and Fergie

According to today’s ‘The Sun’ newspaper (take it with a pinch of salt lol), Sir Alex stated that he will be happy with eight 1-0 victories this season if it means United will hold on to a fourth consecutive title, and their 19th.

The defending champions indeed started off yesterday timidly, like they usually do when beginning a season, and a Wayne Rooney goal was enough to see them through with 3 points in the bag, the most essential part done.  However, last afternoon was rather a shaky one for the Red Devils, with Foster producing a great save to keep out Benitez (not liverpool one haha!) and we saw a United team lacking the impact in midfield, with the exception of Fletcher. They had opportunites to put this game to bed but alas missed them, with Owen missing a sitter after he came on for Berbatov!

Sir Alex admits though that even 1-0 wins are not good for the nerves as well as for  the strikers who want to top the scoring list, he nevertheless acknowledges that in this league it’s 3 points that matters rather than number of goals scored, although at the end sometimes goal difference between the teams may matter on who will come top.

To be noted the absence in defense of Rio Ferdinand, out for 2 weeks at least, Vidic, Rafael, Neville, VDS and yesterday Evans as well picked an injury. So 1-0 wins ok, but if Rio and Vidic were there I would not have been worried, with VDS in goal, but O’Shea, Brown, Foster…lack this experience eventually, and against tougher oppositions we could be facing storms at the back.

i think its simply the lack of christiano ronaldo.. its still early on in season so.. we’ll just have to wait and see.

oh and its so ironic how, alex always says things after it happens to another team to sort of defend himself. Its like he is subtly saying we dont need to win 6-1 like arsenal did. we just needed to win..

yeah i didn’t pick up any jibe from Fergie here. besides, its true, 3-points a game is all that matters.

United just looked rusty, unlike Liverpool who looked lost, Rooney could have had a hat-trick, Fletcher and Owen missed sitters and Berba would have had a peno had he not regained his feet. Valencia needs a lot of work and Nani is having a good start, lets see if getting a run of games helps with his heretofore absent consistency. I think the issue for united this season is that there are too many almost-there mid-fielders, Anderson – Nani – Gibson – Valencia; does Fergie roll the dice on one of them or go buy a proven play-maker (are there even any out there?).

The Manc derby games are going to be very interesting this season.
