Chelsea v. Hull – first game of the season, kicking off at lunch time GMT.

Team news:

Chelsea will be without a number of their players, Yuri Zhirkov is out while Juliano Belletti and Alex are also set to miss out on the season opener. Joe Cole and Paulo Ferreira are training again but would not feature in the match.

Hull City could hand out debuts to all their new signings: Stephen Hunt, Kamel Ghilas, Seyi Olofinjana and Jozy Altidore are in the squad for the visit of Stamford Bridge. Ian Ashbee, Jimmy Bullard and Richard Garcia still in the injured list while goalkeeper Boaz Myhill will be back in goal after a thumb injury.

Prediction:

Aston Villa v. Wigan – Both teams have lost their most influential players, Villa lost Captain Gareth Barry to Manchester City while Antonio Valencia went to Manchester United.

Team news:

Aston Villa could hand out debuts to new boys, Habib Beye and Fabian Delph. Other new signing, 12m Stewart Downing is probably still on crutches and is scheduled back by December.

Wigan’s only injury worry is midfielder Olivier Kapo, damaged a knee ligament on a pre season trip to Austria. Might see new striker Jason Scotland and midfielder Jordi Gomez in action.

Prediction:

Blackburn v. Man City – David Dunn has promised to “kick the lumps” out of City, ah the Sam Allardyce ideology.

Team news:

Blackburn captain Ryan Nelsen will have a late fitness test to see if he’ll play this weekend. Christopher Samba will be back in the squad after making a full recovery from a hamstring strain. Steven Reid, Brett Emerton and David Dunn are still out.

Man City striker Roque Santa Cruz will not be playing against his former club, he is still recovering from an operation on his knee and is expected back in September. Emmanuel Adebayor will have a late fitness test after returning from international duty. Carlo Tevez and Craig Bellamy may start as up front, while Vincent Kompany and Michael Johnson are still far from match-fit.

Bolton v. Sunderland

Team news:

Bolton could hand out debuts to Sean Davis, Paul Robinson, Sam Ricketts and Zat Knight. However, South Korea Lee Chong-Young (no relation to Ashley Young) will not feature.

Sunderland new boss Steve Bruce included four of his signings: Lee Cattermole, Lorik Cana, Darren Bent and Frazier Campbell all travelled to Bolton. However, Paraguay captain Paulao Da Silva will not feature.

Portsmouth v. Fulham

Team news:

Portsmouth goalkeeper David James will start despite missing out of England’s squad last earlier this week, so new signing Antti Niemi will start the game on the bench. Other signings Anthony Vanden Borre will join the squad once his loan deal is finalised and Steve Finnan is out with a hamstring problem.

Fulham defender Brede Hangeland is still in the club despite a recent bid from Arsenal, midfielder Simon Davies will miss the trip to Portsmouth, along with Toni Kallio. New signings Stephen Kelly and Bjorn Helge Riiseare in the squad for Fratton Park.

Prediction:

Stoke City v. Burnley

Team news:

Stoke will start Dean Whitehead alongside Rory Delap in midfield. Danny Higginbotham will face a late fitness test.

Burnley is facing a defensive crisis, captain Steven Caldwell was injured in Scotland’s defeat against Norway. Michael Duff is out with ana ankle injury, and new signing David Edgar is suspended.

Prediction:

Wolves v. West Ham

Team news:

Wolves will be without Christophe Berra who also suffered an injury in Scotland’s defeat, loan signing Michael Mancienne will deputise. Kevin Doyle is in the squad despite a groin injury. Chris Iwelumo and Michael Kightly still out.

West Ham only have Carlton Cole up front, with Dean Ashton and Luis Boa Morte out for a long time. New signings Luis Jimenez and Kieron Dyer could both start on the flanks.

Prediction:

Everton v. Arsenal – late kickoff.

Team news:

Still no Phil Jagielka, Mikel Arteta, Ayegbeni Yakubo and Victor Anichebe. Steven Pienaar doubtful and Joleon Lescott will start.

Arsenal new boy Thomas Vermaelen is expected to make his debut at Goodison Park. Injured list includes Abou Diaby, Theo Walcott, Johan Djourou, Lukasz Fabianski, Tomas Rosicky and Samir Nasri.

Sunday

Man United v. Birmingham – lunch time kick off.

Team news:

Manchester United start their defence of the Premier League title at home, Jonny Evans likely to join Nemanja Vidic and Gary Neville on the sidelines, Wes Brown could start the match in central defence partnering Rio Ferdinand. Ben Foster should be ahead of Tomasz Kuszczak for the number one spot. Antonio Valencia and Michael Owen expected to make their debuts.

Birmingham have Liam Ridgewell, Martin Taylor, Scott Dann, Giovanny Espinoza and David Murphy unavailable for their trip to Old Trafford. Lee Bowyer has to serve suspension from his previous club and Marcus Bent is sidelined with a hamstring problem. New signings Joe Hart, Gregory Vignal and Barry Ferguson will make their debuts, with Christian Benitez on the bench with a shoulder injury.

Prediction:

Tottenham v. Liverpool – late kick off

Team news:

Spurs centre back Sebastien Bassong should make his debut at White Hart Lane, with Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson ruled out. Gareth Bale and Jermaine Jenas are doubtful for the clash with Liverpool.

Liverpool will have a late fitnes test for captain Steven Gerrard for the trip to London. Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel could make the team despite ankle and hamstring problems respectively. Daniel Agger, Fabio Aurelio and new signing Alberto Aquilani are out, fellow new boy Glen Johnson should start.
