Ben Foster out for England-Netherlands Friendly

August 10, 2009

And not that having Paul Robinson on board as backup is any relief, but after witnessing Foster’s shaky goalkeeping during Sunday’s Charity Shield match, I wouldn’t be concerned that his injury will hit England hard.  It’s a friendly at any rate.  A friendly days before Premiership play begins and I honestly doubt we’re going to see either side going too hard.

Apparently the Manchester United goalkeeper took a hit sometime Sunday at Wembley and it’s severe enough to sit out this week.

England Manager Fabio Capello left David James out of the squad due to knee injury, and had Foster, Robinson, and Robert Green on hand for the International friendly Wednesday.  Now Joe Hart has received a call up to replace Foster although it’s looking likely Robinson will start.

There are no reports yet on what impact Forster’s injury will have on Manchester United.  But with Edwin van der Sar out for another 6-8 weeks, Tomasz Kuszcak may have to rise to the occasion.

I’m just glad United face Birmingham first match so things can be sorted out.

England’s Next 2010 Qualifying match will come September 9 V Croatia.

Oh and we all remember how Robinson gets on against those Croats.

Roll on David James.

It’s going to be a shaky 6-8 weeks as well. Time for Rio, Evans, Evra, O’Shea, Rafael, and your boy, Vidic to rekindle the mid-season form from the last campaign, and keep Foster a spectator as much as possible. Hopefully that will give Foster a bit of confidence heading into the Arsenal match.
