Between a rock and a homo.

July 17, 2007

Theres something about spring that makes us fall in Love. Flowers bloom after months of hiding, cowering in fear away from the wrath of Madam Winter. The birds and the bees get reacquainted; buzzing, humming, doing and sounding like whatever birds and bees do and sound like. Unfortunately being so close to the equator, us Asians do not get to experience the changing of nature’s seasons that others might take for granted. This would be the part where I end my introductory paragraph in style by adding in some ultra cheese along the lines of.. In Asia we only experience one season. Football season.

Now that would have made more sense if it was spring. Or if it was football season.

We are still a month shy from the big kick off but the premiership has already been buzzing with excitement. Well with all these mega signings, next season promises to be a mouthwatering wank fest for fans of quality football. Note that promises is in italics as that term is applied in a very liberally.

We will miss you too

Fernando Torres, who has been heavily linked with the red side of Manchester for the better part of the past two seasons have finally joined the Reds. Liverpool not United. Theirry Henry ended his love affair with Arsenal, leaving the emirates for sunny days in Spain. On a lower note, much hyped David Nugent has agreed to tie up his shoe laces at Fratton park for the next four years.

Just over a fortnight before signing for Pompey, all bets were on the Nuge playing for newly promoted Sunderland. But instead of wetting himself at the opportunity to link up with a Legendary Manager in the making, he jets off on holiday. As you can imagine that decision did not go down to well with Roy-“just because you are paid £120,000-a-week and play well for 20 minutes against Tottenham, you think you are a superstar”-Keane and so the Black cats withdrew their offer for the front man.

I wouldn’t want to see this staring at me from the sidelines

Nugent made it no secret that he was waiting for an offer from his favored club Everton but David Moyes did not think that the Preston North End striker was worth his £6 mil price tag. I probably echo the sentiment of the majority when I say that David Nugent should have signed for Sunderland. But saying that would be a showing unprecedented disrespect towards Harry Redknapp.

Keano’s feat at Sunderland last season is nothing short of miraculous but Harry has been pulling rabbits like that out of his hat for years. Lets not forget that this is the same Harry Redknapp who was involved in the developments of superstars like Rio Ferdinand, Joe Cole, Michael Carrick and his nephew Frank Lampard.

What we probably should forget is that this is the same Harry Redknapp who, during his time at West Ham, said, “Dani is so good-looking I don’t know whether to play him or f*ck him”. True Story.
