A new level of delirious
Once upon a time, Liverpool fans claiming that they could play with a big boys and win the EPL was considered delirious because prior to this season, they never even got remotely close to challenging for the title, and is more often seen battling with the likes of Everton, Spurs and Villa.
With the recent week that they had in scoring 8 goals past Man Utd and Real Madrid, Pool fans are allowed to dream. Therefore we need a new level of delirious-ness.
And no one would be surprised if it came from the Geordies of Newcastle, where they still believe they are a “big” club. Add to that equation a former Anfield boy who was part of Pool’s delirious period who claims not to be injury prone, and you get a “WHAT THE??”
Yes thats right. Michael Owen claims he isn’t injury prone.
Really now Michael? You don’t say.
Ask any fantasy leaguer why they don’t have him in his team and they’ll tell you the harsh and honest truth.
Perhaps Michael should go on a pay-as-you-play deal, and when he starts feeling a little broke, maybe he should ask himself why he hasn’t been playing.
If Newcastle get relegated, which I hope they do, as I mentioned in a previous article I wrote a year ago, they will learn to accept they’re not one of the big boys anymore.
With the exception of Obafemi Martins, I cannot see any of the big boys wanting to buy players from Newcastle. That’s usually a good indicator of your status. At this rate, Wigan is a bigger club than Newcastle! And to think Titus Bramble moved from Newcastle to Wigan!
If Michael gets sold, which they will have to in the Championship, I don’t see many of the more established clubs willing to take a chance on Michael on a bumper deal. Perhaps 30k a week with an additional 20k whenever he plays 30mins or more would be reasonable.
Perhaps he should also take a look at the return on investment for Newcastle since he moved. Granted he still has a pretty decent goal scoring ratio, the price paid for him, the no. of games played, and the potential position Newcastle could’ve been with him not injured would have propelled them to where they want to be.
But the real sign will be when even the promoted clubs don’t want to offer him a fixed bumper deal, only THEN perhaps he will realise and admit he IS injury prone.
Unfortunately, until then, we can only continue living with the lies of an Merseysider residing in Geordieland, waiting for his next big pay cheque for doing nothing.

its really too bad, he does have a good record there. 26 goals in 53 games, but thats from 2005. a starting XI player would play over 200 in that time span.
from that stat he should take a page from saha’s book in contract negotiation, or newcastle or any potential club interested in signing the former wonder-kid.
All the best to Michael Owen. It’s never going to be easy living up to the standards you set yourself. With the paradigm shifts in modern football, you would be hard pressed to find a striker in the same mould after he is gone – no more Nistelroys or Inzaghis. I don’t think we can put the blame solely on Owen’s shoulders though. The press talk up the man as if its 1998.
Personally I have a soft spot for newcastle and correct me if im wrong but I believe the St James Park is one of the most liveliest grounds in the Premiership. Makes Old Trafford sound like a retirement home.
I hope Newcastle gets relegated. Owen can come home to Anfield :)
well he’s available on a free! would benitez want him though?
