Well well, how the mighty have fallen. The President of Real Madrid, Ramon Calderon, has resigned his post after immense pressure from other board members over a vote-rigging scandal.
Local newspaper, Marca has alleged that his budget at Real Madrid was passed only because his directors admitted non-members into the assembly, denying entry to about 200 proper ones. Calderon won the assembly – during which 47% of the 1,215 members called for his head. Prior to his resignation, the President purported to know nothing of the allegations, he said: “I have nothing to hide. I firmly deny all the lies that have been published. I never participated in anything illegal or committed any wrongdoing.”
It is believed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, had formed a pact with Calderon in bringing the Manchester United winger to the Bernabeu with a package deal worth a fee of £77 million, rising to £105 million. It would guarantee Ronaldo £11 million a year in wages, that’s around £2o0,000+ a week, plus a £7.25 million payment for Mendes.
There won’t be any more statements by Calderon about Ronaldo going to Real Madrid anymore, well at least ’til the next President. Vice-president Vicente Boluda has been named as interim president. With Fiorentino Perez, a former holder of the post, as the front-runner to succeed him.
